The FDI World Dental Congress is proud to present the world’s first ever Tooth & Wicket Cricket tournament. It will be held at a world class venue and promises to be an unforgettable experience for all participants. Delegates from around the world will have the chance to compete in what is now the second most popular sport in the world. Based on popular outdoor cricket, we are creating a unique indoor tournament that will provide participants with an opportunity to showcase their skills at a world class indoor cricket centre and venue.

This is a complimentary offer to registered delegates of the Congress, we will get you there, provide you with all you need and assure you that this will be an experience to remember!

The Indoor Cricket Game

Cricket heroes like Michael Clark and Steve Smith have thrilled us over many summers playing the outdoor game at the highest level. However, these players and dozens of other cricketers played indoor cricket as part of their professional pathway. Indoor cricket was invented in Australia back in the 1970s. It’s a fast-paced game with attention to the net enclosure. The court is roughly ten (10) metres by thirty (30) metres and is suitable for males and females of all ages and cricketing abilities.

The Game

The rules are much the same as outdoor cricket with the following subtle variations:

Teams bat in pairs for four (4) overs each pair, even if they get dismissed.
Batters get bonus runs by hitting the side nets and the end net near the bowler.
Players only need to run half of the length of the pitch.
Half the fielding team start each delivery in the bowling half of the court and the other half start each delivery in the batting half of the court.
Each member of the bowling team bowls two (2) overs each and like all forms of cricket, the team with the highest score wins.

Can we set up our own team?

You can register a team for the tournament by colleagues, by country, by corporate group.

How many people per team?

6-8 people per team, if you don’t have enough team numbers and we have individual that would like to participate we can add players to your team.

If I’m an individual, can I join a team?

Yes, you sure can. You just select a team as you register.

Is it free to attend?

Yes.

Is it free to play?

Yes. This is open to delegates only and the first 96 players who register.

Will the equipment be provided to the team?

Yes, we will provide all the cricket equipment including gloves, bats and balls. Each team will have a team t-shirt that you get to keep!

How many teams will be in the tournament?

There will be around 12 teams in total.

Will there be buses to transport the participants?

Yes, there will be buses leaving the ICC Sydney at around 6.45am and returning at around 4:45pm (approximate timings, subject to change).

Can family and friends watch the tournament?

Yes, Family and friends wishing to attend can do so but will need to make their own travel arrangements to the venue.

Will there be food and beverages available?

Yes.

Can women register and play?

Yes absolutely, this is a social game and is open to all.

Do I need to have a certain level of fitness to play?

No, indoor cricket is suitable for all levels of fitness.

How do we register all eight (8) players in a team?

You need to select your team at the time of registration, so we recommend you registering at the same time. If you encounter any problems, please email FDIWDC2023@ada.org.au.

Will there be showers, change rooms and lockers available?

Yes, Cricket Central is a world class indoor cricket facility used by professional cricket teams. However, although there are lockers, we recommend that you don’t bring any valuables with you. Any valuables that go missing are your own responsibility.

Will the event be COVID-19 Safe?

We will work with the Australian Government on our COVID safe strategy for the event. However, no matter what precautions we take, not everyone can or should join us. We want our community to be safe, which means taking advice from your medical advisors, especially if you are vulnerable, which may mean avoiding large gatherings like the Tooth & Wicket Cricket event.

Will there be an ATM machine available?

Unfortunately, not.
