Lecture
Oral Radiology and Related Imaging in 2018: An Update
Digital technology provides the dentist with a variety of advanced radiographic and related imaging techniques. While 3D techniques such as CBCT have become a standard already, advanced programs implemented in novel panoramic machines enable e.g. retrospective layer adaptation or a tomosynthetic representation of the image. In addition, recent developments in MRI indicate that this non-ionizing radiation technique may play a much larger role in dental imaging in the future. The lecture reviews the current status quo from a clinical perspective and describes typical and potential clinical applications as well as limitations of the techniques.

Learning objectives :
  1. acquire knowledge on current (radiographic) imaging techniques and their clinical application
  2. understand pros and cons of different imaging methods
  3. basic understanding of radiation dose involved with the techniques
  4. understanding of when to prefer 2D or 3D imaging techniques
